Thinking of living in Maplewood, NJ? If you are looking for a town with a quick commute that is a combination of Mayberry and big city sophistication then Maplewood, NJ is the place for you. More than any other town in my marketplace, Maplewood residents are also raving fans of the community. The housing stock is lovely and varied with a mix of Colonials, Tudors and Victorians and bungalows. Pedestrian friendly and environmentally conscious, there public parks accessible from every neighborhood. The “Village” center is super charming and has all of the amenities you need. Maplewoodians pride themselves on being involved citizens who get active in community organizations. The town known for being home to many actors, designers, writers, musicians and other creative people. The town shares a school district with neighboring South Orange. Columbia High School is known for its wide selection of advanced placement courses, strong arts curriculum and champion fencing team.

The Commute

Conveniently located between routes 280 and 78, Maplewood his great highway access without any major roads running through it. You can drive to the Manhattan from Maplewood in about 35 minutes. Newark Airport is about 12 minutes from Maplewood.

In less than 40 minutes, NJ Transit’s Midtown direct line can get you from Maplewood to New York Penn Station. There is also train service from Maplewood to Hoboken where one can transfer to ferry or PATH service to lower Manhattan.

Maplewood has on-street permit parking for residents only on many streets surrounding the station. Parking permits are $200 for the year. There is limited train station parking for residents and non-residents in an NJ Transit lot at Baker St. and Maplewood Ave. and some spots even closer to the station on Dunnell Rd. for a few dollars a day. Many residents choose to walk or take advantage of the jitney service– a small bus that shuttles residents to the station for a minimal fee. For information on train station parking click here :
