With the summer winding down, there is still time to enjoy some fun local events with your friends and family. Here are a few for you to choose from.

 

Mapping the Unknown. Abstract Topographies by Agnes Deja – Solo exhibition of works by a NJ painter and sculptor Agnes Deja. West Orange Public Library August 1 – August 31

Family Fun Nights – Wednesdays and Thursdays at The Turtle Back Zoo –Essex County Turtle Back Zoo has extended hours from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays through August 30th. Enjoy the Zoo when the summer temperatures are cooler and the workday is over. Paid admission is required to enter the Zoo each evening.

On Wednesdays, enjoy Zoo-vies! After playing late at the Zoo, enjoy blockbuster movies under the stars on the rooftop of the parking deck. Admission is free. Zoo admission is not required to participate. Bring your own chair. Films begin at dusk.

South Orange Summer Nights – See the last “Moonlit Movie” of the summer –Despicable Me 3 (2017 Rated PG) at Floods Hill Wednesday, August 29 8:00pm

Elm+Art Artist Meet & Greet – To enhance the artistic food and beverage experience at End of Elm, a local curator will showcase a rotating exhibit of artwork from around the world. Come to the official meet and greet to kick off the series at End of Elm on Saturday, September 1 at 6:00pm.

Dance on the Lawn 2018 – DOTL will feature performances by more than 13 NY and NJ dance companies and schools. DOTL offers Montclair residents and neighboring communities a sneak peek at emerging and established artists from NJ & the NY area. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Saturday, September 8 3:00pm

5th Annual Heroes for Children 5K Run and Family Fun Run/Walk – Join your neighbors, community and friends for a fun-filled day to help raise awareness about child abuse and neglect in New Jersey. Learn about how local Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) and Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) make a difference in a child’s life. Superhero costumes are encouraged! Saturday, September 15 at the South Mountain Recreation Complex’s Clipper Pavilion 7:30am

PlayDay South Orange: Come Play in the Street! – PlayDay South Orange features more than 10 play areas, including board games, basketball, radio controlled cars and rope jumping. It’s the most fun you’ve ever had between two curbs! South Orange Avenue in downtown South Orange on Sunday, September 16 1:00-6:00pm (rain date: Sunday, September 23)

The Columbia High School Scholarship Fund (CHSSF) Red & Black Party – The Trustees of the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund cordially invite you to the Red & Black Party. Enjoy an evening of cocktails, delicious hors d’oeuvres and live piano music. 100% of your donation will go directly to funding scholarships. The Maplewood Club Saturday, September 22 7:00-9:30pm

Enchanted India – Experience a repertoire of song, music and dance from the tradition of the semi-nomadic travelling musicians from the Rajasthan region of India that’s a boisterous, colorful, joyful affirmation of Indian culture. A Home For All 5K Run/Walk – Join Interfaith Hospitality Network for the 2nd annual A Home For All 5K Walk/Run! Your support will help homeless families in Essex County find shelter and housing stability. Crest Drive, South Mountain Reservation (entrance off of South Orange Avenue, by dog park recreation area) Saturday, September 29 9:00-11:00am (check in at 8:30am)

Ales ‘N Tails Oktoberfest Beer and Wine Festival – Enjoy a live Oompah Band and sample dozens of seasonal brews from around the world. In addition to traditional music, beers, wine and spirits, there will be local craft and food vendors selling their wares. Essex County Turtle Back Zoo Saturday, September 29 6:00-9:00pm

Yogi Berra Stadium’s 2nd annual Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival – Eat, drink, and celebrate the arrival of Fall at Yogi Berra Stadium’s 2nd annual Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival. This fun-filled family event will feature a bountiful assortment of mouthwatering food, drinks, live performances by the B Street Band. Saturday, September 29 12:00–7:00pm

Maplewood Art Walk and Music Fest – Walk the streets of Maplewood during the annual Art Walk & Music Fest. Shop for fine art and handcrafted jewelry, enjoy live music and performances and visit the one-of-a-kind local merchants and eateries. Sunday, September 30, 11:00-5:00pm
