Allison Ziefert has joined the Beyond Brooklyn team for the 6th bi-annual Beyond Brooklyn Seminar. This informational seminar brings together agents from surrounding suburbs in New Jersey, Long Island and Westchester to help Brooklynites faced with rising prices find alternative housing outside the borough. The event also includes a financial consultant who addresses the financial aspects of selling and purchasing.
Jessica Fields and Alexandra Foucard, of the Compass real estate platform, began this educational event in 2014 to help local Brooklynites learn more about the suburbs around New York City. The team noticed that many of their sellers and buyers felt as though they had been “priced out” of Brooklyn but were reluctant to leave. Many Brooklynites spoke of wanting the wonderful community that exists in Brooklyn but more space both inside and outside their homes. Thus, Beyond Brooklyn was born. The event provides helpful, on-the-ground information about relocating and the nuances that distinguish one suburban neighborhood from another.
“We are seeing that people who moved to Brooklyn years ago as a more affordable alternative to Manhattan cannot afford to move within the area to larger spaces to accommodate their growing families or lifestyle changes,” said Ms. Fields. “These are people who love Brooklyn and don’t necessarily want to leave but are faced with difficult financial choices.” “Beyond Brooklyn has an expanded network of agents, clients, and inventory — offering unprecedented access to areas beyond New York City,” added Ms. Foucard.
Hosted twice a year, Beyond Brooklyn features a rotating group of real estate professionals from the suburbs outside of New York City. These agents are not only experts in the real estate market, but they are also locals who know the areas they represent on a very personal level. They provide great insight into what it’s really like to live in their communities. Allison Ziefert will present the towns of Montclair, Maplewood and South Orange (the two towns she has called home for more than 20 years). The seminar has helped to successfully relocate many people to communities outside of Brooklyn. As a result of this success, Beyond Brooklyn has been featured in The New York Times, Realtor.com, and The Real Deal.
