If you are considering a move to South Orange, NJ you might want to check out the Montrose Park Historic District Association’s (MPHDA) “Autumn in Montrose Park” Historic House Tour this Saturday, October 15th. Montrose is a neighborhood in the Township of S. Orange Village. It was developed beginning in the 1870s and contains many of the most imposing and architecturally magnificent homes in town. In fact, some of the highest sales prices in S. Orange of late have all been in Montrose.

487 Berkeley Rd.- an 8BR 5.1 bath on .59 acres closed for $1.287 million
500 Grove Ter. – a 5BR 3.1 BA on over an acre sold for $1.250 million
240 Turell Rd. – a 6BR 3.1 BA that was totally renovated sold for $1.15 million.
If you visit Montrose you will immediately be impressed by the large lot sizes and varied architecture including Victorians, Colonials and Tudors. The neighborhood is well served by access to both the Mountain and S. Orange train stations. It is walkable to S. Orange Village Center and Seton Hall University. This neighborhood is zoned for Marshall/Jefferson Elementary, S. Orange Middle and Columbia High School.
According to the MPHDA, “The historic homes offer visitors an “armchair trip” back in time, when they can “see” how early residents lived–after the Civil War, nearly fifty years before women could vote, when electricity was a new-fangled idea and just before the telephone was invented.”
