Allison Ziefert of Allison Ziefert Real Estate Group at Keller Williams MidTown Direct in Maplewood is once again a proud Cum Laude sponsor of the 2019 Columbia High School Scholarship Fund (CHSSF) Annual Cocktail Party. The Red & Black Party, a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres and live piano music, is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:30pm at The Maplewood Club in Maplewood, NJ. We hope to see you there!
The purpose of the Red & Black party is simple – to raise funds for scholarships. The event sponsors pay for the event which allows 100% of ticket sales to go to scholarships. During the evening, donors and scholarship recipients mingle and enjoy a relaxing night out. Guest speakers include former scholarship recipients who speak about their achievements and the president of CHSSF who provides an update on the fund. This past year approximately $164,000 was awarded to 130 graduating students and Columbia High School alumni. Since their beginning in 1923, the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund has awarded over $1.3 million dollars to several thousand students. The grants can be used for any kind of post-secondary education.
The CHSSF, governed by an independent board of community volunteers, was established in 1923 by Ida Grace Alexander, a teacher, and her family. It offers need-based financial assistance to graduates of Columbia High School for any post-secondary education, including trade/technical colleges and graduate school. The scholarship recipients, many of whom are first generation students attending college, and their families are so appreciative. The scholarship fund is a true testimony to community helping community. When the community and the scholarship alumni give back, it strengthens the Columbia High School community as well as the South Orange/Maplewood community.
