This month our Local Love feature is on barre3, a local fitness studio in Livingston.
I had the opportunity to chat recently with Nora Yi, owner of the barre3 fitness studio in Livingston. Nora told me that barre3 is a full-body, balanced workout that combines strength conditioning, cardio and mindfulness. The workouts are smart, safe, and most importantly, focused on long-term success and benefits.
Nora moved from Manhattan to Short Hills over 10 years ago with her husband, Chun and their two daughters, Senna and Olivia. Due to a wonderful opportunity through her husband’s company, they had the privilege of living abroad in London for the past four years. They recently returned to Short Hills and are excited to settle back into their old neighborhood. They chose the Short Hills area because of the amazing schools and convenient trains into the city.
Nora is delighted to own barre3 Livingston. With a background in Tae Kwon Do and long distance running, she has always had a passion for fitness. After having her two daughters and feeling the wear on her body from her former high-impact workouts, Nora realized the importance of maintaining a strong, healthy body and mind. She told me, “I love barre3 because it centers me and empowers me to make choices that meet me where I am. It’s a workout designed for everyone.”
She has been in business for over six years, and she says, “It’s been a true blessing to have met so many amazing people in and around the Livingston community. I feel blessed to have met so many strong women from so many different walks of life. It’s a magical thing to be able to create a space where clients feel safe, strong and beautiful each and every time they walk into the studio.” As a studio owner, Nora loves to support her community as she helps them feel balanced and confident from the inside out.
The barre3 method is designed with a signature approach of sustained holds, micro-movements, and cardio bursts that will leave you feeling balanced in body and empowered from within. Barre3 uses only low-impact movements. With a team of experts—doctors, physical therapists, and anatomy specialists—a signature 3-step sequence was developed to produce a strong and balanced workout. The basics are:
- HOLD – Align the body, build mind-body connection, and engage your muscles.
- MOVE SMALL – Work deep in the muscle without compromising your form to push through plateaus, and build strength.
- MOVE BIG – Build functional strength for everyday activities, tone your muscles, and energize your entire body.
