Now that Spring is finally here, there are many local happenings scheduled to take place in our area over the next several weeks. Here are a few that we think would be fun for you to enjoy with friends and family.
SOMA Film Festival From opening night to the final program, the SOMA Film Festival is four days packed with amazing and entertaining short and feature films, as well as the popular Kids, Youth Filmmaker, and Locals Programs. The festival features and supports independent and emerging filmmakers. March 20 – 24
Equivalent This 15th annual student fine art exhibition celebrates the artistic accomplishments of Seton Hall students through various media and subject matters. Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University, South Orange. April 2 – May 10
Benny & Joon Based on the 1993 film starring Johnny Depp and Mary Stuart Masterson, this new musical is a smart, funny, tender-hearted celebration of love: between children and parents; romantic partners; friends; and, most of all, siblings. Paper Mill Playhouse, Millburn. April 4 – May 5
The Bountiful Herb Garden Join the Maplewood Garden Club when Caren White, the Garden Steward of Rutgers Herb Garden and a lifelong gardener, presents “The Bountiful Herb Garden.” Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker Street, Maplewood. April 8, 7:30pm
Rainbow Fish The enchanting Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia presents a puppet-filled adaptation of the popular children’s book by Marcus Pfister. NJPAC, Newark. April 13, 11:00am
Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival This annual festival takes place April 6-14. Amid Cherry trees blossoming everywhere, BloomFest! includes Japanese cultural demonstrations, children’s activities, live music, a crafter’s marketplace, food and more! Branch Brook Park, Newark. April 14, 11:00am – 5:00pm
Millburn/Short Hills Street Fair and Crafts Show More than 200 local artists, crafters and vendors will display their wares. There will also be plenty of food, rides, performances, petting zoo, live music and more! April 14, 11:00am – 5:00pm
Summit Farmer’s Market The 2019 season opens April 28 for one of the biggest local farmer’s markets in the area. You will find fresh fruit, veggies, seafood, bread, pastries and more. April 28, 8:00am – 1:00pm at the corner of DeForest Ave.and Maple St.
Open Orange This juried art exhibit is designed to highlight local talent from New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area who work in two-dimensional media. Valley Arts, Orange. May 9 – June 8
MayFest An afternoon of fun with more than 150 vendors, activities, food and live music on Springfield Avenue between Indiana and Rutgers Street. Springfield Avenue, Maplewood. May 20, 11:00am – 5:00pm
