After the long Winter we have had, Spring is now officially here! And there are a lot of fun, local events to enjoy over the next few weeks. In this post we highlight just a few of the many things available for you to do with your family.
Easter and Springtime Family Festival at Alstede Farms – Enjoy springtime fun at the Easter and Springtime Family Festival at Alstede Farms in Chester. Visit the baby farm animals, hunt for Easter egg, enjoy a cozy campfire with marshmallows to toast, meet the Easter bunny, and lots more! Check the website for a schedule of events and times. Spring Time Super Science – Get up close and personal with the natural world, with an emphasis on rocks and minerals! Participants will learn about rock collecting, and do an explosive volcano experiment! They will learn the differences between the three categories of rocks such as igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic and explore the physical properties of fluorescent minerals using an ultraviolet lamp. Bunny Chase at Terhune Orchards – Spring has sprung at Terhune Orchards! Come for a free, fun event for families. Follow the treasure hunt clues and find our spring surprise at the end of the hunt! Wonderful for children ages 2 – 8 years. Each child can make a bunny to take home. Enjoy wagon rides around the farm and pony rides too. Our Farm Food Tent will be filled with donuts, pie, cookies, apple cider, soup, chili, salads, hot dogs and much more. Adults can visit the Terhune Orchards Vineyard and Winery Tasting Room to sample award winning wines made from grapes grown on the farm. Fun event for all ages. Non-Productive Comedy Show – The Non-Productive Comedy Show is live stand-up showcase taking place on the first Thursday of every month at Just Jake’s in Montclair, NJ. Hosted by John Minus, the show features comedians that have been on Comedy Central and MTV as well as headlining comedy clubs across the nation. The overall experience is heightened by the world class food of Just Jake’s and an infamous raffle for prizes of dubious quality! Just Jake’s Thursday, April 5 8:00-9:30pm
Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival – Each spring, more than 4,000 cherry trees wow almost 10,000 visitors per day with their beauty. This is the largest number of Japanese flowering trees in one location in the United States. Events during the festival include a bike race, a 10K run, a 1-mile walk/run, an Essex county family day, Bloomfest and a Cherry Blossom Bus Tour. Nocturnal Neighbors – The forest is bursting with the calls of amphibians emerging from their winter sleep. Celebrate Nature Yoga and Meditation – Gather your friends together for a rejuvenating yoga and meditation session on the beautiful and peaceful grounds of Reeves-Reed Arboretum. Claire Diab, of the American Yoga Academy Studio, will demonstrate mantra meditation, breathing techniques, chakra toning, and the six directions. These powerful breathing techniques help to purify and cleanse your lungs, which in turn purifies and nourishes every single cell in your body. $20 donation per person ($15 for RRA Members).
