There are so many things to do in our local area over the next few weeks! We put together a list of some fun Local Happenings that we thought you could enjoy with your family and friends. And don’t forget to check your local website for Memorial Day activities in your town over the weekend!
Liberty State Park Fleet Week 5K – The day begins with a 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run and then the Youth Obstacle Race! Keep your kids active with a fun & challenging obstacle run featuring walls, cargo nets, tires, police hurdles, water jugs, police cars & more! At noon the US NAVY will have military air displays with helicopters, a dive tank, and various militarily vehicles. There will be live bands and food trucks for the entire family to enjoy! May 26 10am
MONTCLAIR BOUNCE: A FESTIVAL OF OPTIMISM AND RESILIENCE – MONTCLAIR BOUNCE is a playful, town-wide exploration of ways to brighten our days and strengthen our spirits. This first annual festival is a week full of creative events and learning experiences to help us discover practices and connections that can enrich our lives. May 31 – June 7, 2019
Millburn Town Scavenger Hunt – Be the first team to solve the clues! Team up with friends and family to use puzzles, clues, and more that will challenge you as you race through the town of Millburn for an adventure! June 1, 12 – 3pm
West Orange Street Fair – This annual street fair brings together talented artists and crafters, retailers, tasty food vendors and family fun activities. It will feature a car and motorcycle show, sponsored by The Pour House, highlighting spectacular historic vehicles, such as classic cars, and various types of motorcycles. The West Orange Annual Street Fair is the perfect event for the family! June 2, 11am – 5pm
Storytime – Enjoy the old-fashioned art of storytelling at the Burgdorff Cultural Center in Maplewood sponsored by the Allison Ziefert Real Estate Group. These stories are true tales told by the people who lived them. Drinks and snacks available. June 8, 7pm
Reeves Reed Arboretum Art in the Garden -The gardens of Reeves-Reed Arboretum will be alive with fabulous music, wonderful art installations and incredible food to celebrate the annual fundraiser, ART in the Garden. June 8, 6pm – 11pm
Reeves Reed Arboretum Great Swamp Paddle – Bordering the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, this section of the Passaic River boasts beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife. You’ll feel at one with nature as the river’s twists and turns carry you deeper into the Great Swamp’s soul. You’ll even portage over a beaver dam and check out their amazing handiwork. June 9, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
North Jersey Pride Festival – NJ’s only family‑friendly Pride Festival for LGBT and straight ally attendees. Enjoy live music, 80+ vendors, and a five-star food court featuring local culinary artisans. This festival brings together thousands of LGBTQ community members and straight allies from all over the Garden State to celebrate diversity, equality and respect for all. June 9
Maplewood Girls Night Out – Don’t miss this annual fun night of shopping, dining, sipping, music, promotions and more sponsored by Allison Ziefert of Keller Williams MidTown Direct. Visit the event booth at the corner of Highland Place and Maplewood Avenue for a map of participating businesses. June 13, 6pm – 9pm
MAM Yarn Bomb and Fiber Art Exhibit – This juried show will consist of works created with traditional and contemporary fibrous materials and methods, all completed since 2015. As we rely increasingly upon technology, there is a growing appreciation of the personal, sensuous delivery of mood and content through the familiar components of fiber. Ongoing through June 16 at the Montclair Art Museum
Cora Hartshorn Arboretum Monthly Guided Hike – Spring is a time when the plants and the animals that call the Arboretum home feel warm and energized. Join Cora’s Conservation Corps as they guide you into the woods and introduce you to the discoveries you can make as a Citizen Scientist. June 16, 11am
Reeves Reed Arboretum INKUBATE – Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets to Reeves-Reed Arboretum to kick off another summer series of concerts in the garden. INKUBATE® is a collaboration between the New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble and Reeves-Reed Arboretum offering three “enchanting and exhilarating” evenings of site-specific dance performances on the Arboretum grounds. June 26, July 10 and July 31, 6pm
Maplewoodstock – Each day of this two day festival features nearly a dozen local bands that represent a wide variety of musical styles, from rock and pop to soul and funk. These bands are selected from applicants who hail from Maplewood/South Orange and other nearby musical communities. Each day ends with a Featured Artist/Act and a prominent Headliner. The 16th annual Maplewoodstock Music & Arts Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14.
Montclair Jazz Festival – The eclectic arts town of Montclair will once again transform into a destination for thousands of music fans as the 10th Annual Montclair Jazz Festival produced by acclaimed Jazz House Kids kicks off two jam-packed weeks of music. July 26 – August 10
Kinetic Art Exhibit “Simply Steampunk” – Work by designers Paige Gardner, Amber O’Boyle Kulp, and Colleen O’Neill is featured through a selection of women’s and men’s costumes and accessories that illustrate the eclectic and individualistic nature of steampunk fashion today. Ongoing through October 6 at the Morris Museum
