home based fitness programs

Maybe you don’t have a regular work schedule, or you head into the city early and get home late. Maybe you travel a lot so a gym membership doesn’t make sense. Maybe a gym membership is cost prohibitive right now. Or maybe you just want to exercise in the privacy of your own home. Not everyone can or wants to join a gym. But there are many home based fitness programs out there to help you get in shape and stay fit in 2018.

HOME BASED FITNESS TRAINING PROGRAMS

The following are a few home based fitness programs that have been popular over the last few years. Some of these programs have online support where you can track your success. With all of these programs, you can work out within your own time frame. Some programs are free and, while some do charge for their workout, they do not require a huge investment.

Insanity Sign up online for the Insanity workout, a rigorous, full-body routine that requires users to do familiar activities, such as push-ups, squats, lunges, kickboxing and more. You choose the right workout program for you out of more than 40 unique plans, use the program’s meal plan, track your workouts and see your results. There are several membership levels, and a 12 month membership plan costs $99.

P90X Short for Power 90 Extreme, this is another home exercise routine. The program includes 12 intense workouts that use resistance and body-weight training, cardio, plyometrics, ab work, martial arts and yoga, along with a nutrition plan, fitness guide and workout calendar. For 12 workouts, a 3-phase nutrition plan and a fitness guide, the cost is around $120.

PiYo This workout combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. It is a fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and defined. This workout is designed to work at all ages and fitness levels. Seven workouts are available on 3 DVDs that can be purchased for approximately $60.

Couch to 5K If running a marathon was part of your New Year’s resolution, then Couch to 5K is what you’re looking for. You can follow a training plan or use the C25K mobile app to achieve your goal. The plan promises you’ll be able to run 3.1 miles in 30 minutes within nine weeks.

Squat Challenge Workout This workout requires you to do squats every day for a month, starting with a Basic Squat and gradually adding in different squats and more reps. This is a great workout for your glutes, thighs and core as well as hips, hamstrings, back and calves.

Plank Exercise Research shows that the best way to strengthen your core is by doing simple planks. There are many different plank positions, and they are much more difficult than they look.

Hiking, Biking, Tennis and Golf are also great ways to get out there and exercise. The South Mountain Reservation and Eagle Rock Reservation have many hiking and biking paths to explore. West Orange has many golf courses to choose from and there are many tennis clubs in our local area.

These are just a few of the many available home based fitness programs. Please keep in mind that whatever workout program you do choose, have fun doing it!
