There are many fun events planned by our local communities over the next few weeks. Here are a few local happenings for you and your family to enjoy.

Kip’s Castle Evening Guided Tour – Celebrate Spring with evening guided tours of this magnificent castle. Admission includes coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Thursday, May 10 at 7:00pm

“A World Apart” The Greenwood Gardens Story – Through a slideshow of the Day and Blanchard eras, learn how this unique property became Greenwood Gardens. Saturday, May 5 2:00 – 4:00pm at Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills

Arbor Day Celebration – Come celebrate Arbor Day with animals, arts, and activities! There will be guided tours and special guests throughout the day. Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, Saturday, May 5 11:00am

Upper Montclair Historic Walking Tour – This 2 ½-hour walking tour chronicles the development of the area from a rural settlement in the 1880s to a burgeoning suburban town in the 1930s. Tours begins at 10 am. Montclair, Saturday, May 5 10:00 – 12:00pm

Tours of the Historic Houses – The Crane House and Historic YWCA is a window into the history of our nation from its early years as an independent country to a country embroiled in the civil rights struggle. The Shultz House (Evergreens) is a fully intact time capsule that takes you back to life in early 20th century Montclair. Tours of the Crane House & Historic YWCA are on the hour with the last tour at 3pm. Tours of the Shultz House are on the half hour with the last tour at 3:30pm. Montclair, Sunday, May 13 1:00 – 4:00pm

Mother’s Day Tea at Reeves-Reed Arboretum – Treat that special someone in your life to an elegant afternoon high tea, featuring a multi-course sampling of scones, tea sandwiches and desserts. After tea, take a guided stroll through the spring gardens led by Director of Horticulture, Marc Montefusco. Sunday, May 13 1:00 – 3:30pm

Verona Park Fishing Derby – Enjoy this beautiful Essex County park while spending time with family and friends. Everyone is invited to come out, cast their line and create “big fish” stories. Verona Park, Thursday, May 17 5:00 – 7:45pm

AutomataCon: A Convention for Automata Enthusiasts – If you are an automaton maker, collector or enthusiast, this is a convention not to be missed. With the goal of sharing ideas, building relationships and growing interest in Automata new and old, this convention is sure to be a fun event. Morris Museum, May 18 – 20

Essex County Family Garden Party – Celebrate the arrival of spring among more than 100,000 blooms with a day of family activities, entertainment and refreshments. A student art exhibit will be on display and the Bloom Room will be open for shopping. Essex County Presby Memorial Iris Gardens Upper Montclair, Saturday, May 19 11:00am – 3:00pm

Family Camp Out – Pitch a tent in the woods, roast s’mores, and more! This is a great opportunity for a first time camping experience for the whole family. Dinner and continental breakfast provided, as well as some great activities such as a night hike, firelight stories, and other surprises.
